Leadership Training
Every Scout deserves a trained leader. Scouting America provides training for all key leader positions in the Cub Scouts. Most training can be taken online, although certain courses (e.g., BALOO) have in-person training requirements and must be taken through our local Council.
Here are some of the most important training for Cub Scout leaders:
Youth Protection Training
Adult leaders and every adult who goes on a Cub Scout overnight trip must complete Safeguarding Youth Training (SYT), formerly called YPT. This course is available online and takes 90 minutes to complete. This training expires and a refreshed course (15 minutes) must be taken every 12 months.

BALOO
Basic Adult Leader Outdoor Orientation (BALOO) is a 1½-day course (includes 1 night camping) for adult Cub Scout leaders to learn basic outdoor skills and how to lead Pack campouts. It is offered 1-2 times per year by our local Council. Per national policy, at least one BALOO-certified adult leader must be present at every Pack campout.
DEN LEADER TRAINING
Being a den leader is one of the most important leadership roles in the Pack, but it can be a bit daunting to get started. Den leader training is available online or can be taken in-person from local Council trainers in the fall & spring.
Position-specific training is also available for Cubmasters, Committee Chairs, and other positions within the Pack, as well as additional general safety courses such as Hazardous Weather training.
